Evelyn Stell

Evelyn Stell is a music historian, composer and organist. Her doctoral thesis was ‘Sources of Scottish Instrumental Music, 1603-1707’(University of Glasgow, 1999). Now a Postdoctoral Fellow in the Department of Celtic and Scottish Studies at the University of Edinburgh, she is currently working on a digital index of early Scottish melodies (see below).

Evelyn is also Convener of the Music Advisory Group of the Liturgy Commission of the RC Archdiocese of St Andrews and Edinburgh. She is organist at St Michael's RC Church, Linlithgow.

Although this compilation of thematic indexes is still in progress, it is already a very useful resource for music researchers. It currently contains details of seven major Scottish early music sources and includes incipits of 700 melodies.

Please note: ESMO may now be freely consulted, as it has become part of the website of Celtic and Scottish Studies, University of Edinburgh.
